Given the sub-tropical climate and consistent rain of the Gold Coast, the main varieties of turf used are Couch, Buffalo (usually Sir Walter Buffalo) and carpet grass. The most important procedure is the preparation. The choice of soil for the underlay depends on the site. Sand and clay both require different underlay. Once the soil is chosen then the levels have to be prepared to allow the drainage to flow away to the lowest point.
One of my favourite grasses. It is a soft grass with lime green colour, very easy to cut and maintain. Also cheaper than Buffalo grass. However, it usually grows in lower light conditions with wetter soils. If in full sun it is best suited to clay soils, because they hold moisture for longer periods of time.
